Obituary
Valerie Vernetta Wilson-Saunders was born November 2, 1953,
in Los Angeles, California to the late Leroy Wilson and Kather
Nell Wilson. She was the second of four children.
Valerie received Christ at an early age. Valerie attended 107th
street school, Gompers junior high school and graduated from
Alain Leroy Locke high school in June of 1971. She also attended
Southwest College for a year.
Valerie attended the Urban League to learn data entry and
completed that course and began a career at Bank of America
(BofA), as a data entry operator, on April 9, 1973. Valerie was
then promoted to Unit Supervisor, of over 20 employees and
eventually began supervising 120 people. She met Richard
while working at BofA, in 1982 and married him on January
18, 2003. She later joined Great New Bethel Baptist church on
March 29, 2009.
Valerie was known for her soul food cooking, feeding others in
the neighborhood, and always helped others with encouraging
words and especially those who were suffering from mental
illness or diseases. This was very personal to Val since she had
some experiences in these areas. She was very compassion
about healing and staying positive with God. She loved gospel
music.
Valerie’s father, mother, eldest brother, Saul Wilson and
youngest sister, Mary Wilson preceded her in death. She is
survived by her brothers, Larry Lee Wilson of Riverside, CA
and Steve Leroy Wilson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Godson
James Earl Johnson II of Marietta; Georgia; Aunt Ruby Lee
Wilson of Mobile, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews,
great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She will truly
be missed.
