Reflections of Life
Donald Wayne Taylor began his journey in life on November 29, 1953, in Shreveport,
Louisiana. He was the oldest child born to Eva D. Taylor; a young mother who was delighted to
have a newborn. A few years later after Donald was born his mother and grandparents, along
with Donald, moved to Los Angeles, California for a better life and more opportunities.
Donald attended and graduated from Alain Leroy Locke High School in 1971; he was part of the
famous Locke High School Marching Band. He met his High School Sweetheart, Patricia
Anderson, and a few years after high school graduation they were married; to this union their
son DeWayne Leon was born.
Donald spent most of his years employed with the City of Inglewood and was eventually
promoted to management within the Public Works Department until he retired in 2007. He was a
devoted employee, a hard worker and he treated his subordinates with the upmost respect. He
developed many friendships within the department during his tenure with the city. After he
retired from the City of Inglewood he was employed in various other jobs; he was not one who
could just sit at home and do nothing.
Before retiring from the City of Inglewood, he met and married his second wife Judy
Haughton; to this union two children Trenia Diane and Donald Matthew were born. Donald
was a devoted husband to both his wives. He was an excellent provider to his children, always
understanding, caring and loving towards their needs.
Growing up with his sister Barbara, whom he was very protected of throughout the years, went
on many vacations, picnics, amusements parks and to the beach with their parents. He was able
to convince Barbara to buy a house and move to Palmdale, California where they ended up
living in the same area. He enjoyed barbecuing, entertaining and hanging out with his family
and friends, where he was always the life of the party, traveling to Las Vegas and going to the
Racetrack with his Aunt Glennie, who was more like his older sister. He loved the Lord; his
saying was always, “God Got Me” and practiced his teachings to be kind, loving, respectful and
good natured. Donald lived a joyous but simple life and did everything his way.
Our beloved Donald Wayne departed this life and went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2024;
he was preceded in death by his Parents Eva D. and Richard James; his Grandparents Matthew
and Dessie Taylor; his five Aunts, Sarah Brumfield, Elsie Taylor, Veola Maxwell, Irene
Cowthran and Glennie Mae Caraway; Uncle, Walter Taylor, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories his three children, DeWayne Leon (Kamie), Trenia Diane and
Donald Matthew (Mai Chou); Grandchildren, Asanii Taylor, Emoni Kirkland, Simone
Kirkland; Great-Grandchildren, Kaielle Turner, Keilauni Falls and Isreal Rose Westrup; his
devoted sister Barbara Ann James; his two Aunts, Bessie Gales and Willie Mae Washington; a
host of loving cousins; his ex-wife Judy Taylor, who was a dedicated caregiver to Donald;
close family friend Jennifer Overturf and a host of other relatives and friends.
