Maccabi Australia Report - January 2023 - from the President’s Desk

THE YEAR AHEAD

This year has been instructional in so many ways, it

has taught us how important Sport and Wellbeing is

our daily lives. It has shown us the need to be

nimble, responsive and cohesive in the face of an

ever changing and challenging landscape. Most

importantly it has shown us the power of

community, volunteerism, teamwork and respect-

values that have guided us through a return to

normality.

There is no doubt that our universe will change

shape in the forthcoming years as sportification* and

gamification* gather momentum. New sports will

emerge whilst some traditional sports will slowly

disappear. Individual and unstructured activity will

continue growing at the expense of team sports.

Technology will continue to disrupt, and e-games

will become real new sports and blended into sports

in general. We will be able to play soccer at a local

club but also cross boundaries with a friend in Israel.

Women sports are set to grow evidenced by the

success of Australian teams in Netball, Basketball,

Soccer and Cricket. Sustainability will become a

growing focus as influencers, consumers and
