Help Us Build a Healthy & Sustainable Future
O
Sporting organisations are formed with the purpose of developing and coordinating grass root activities, encouraging
participation and pursuing goal achievement. In this regard the Maccabi organisation is no different. Over the years Maccabi has
been at the centre of developing, hosting and managing events which have provided the community the opportunity to compete
and enjoy the connections that sport brings.
Importantly Maccabi Australia Incorporated (MAI) is a Zionist sports organisation and is focused on strengthening its links with
Israel and the Jewish community generally. MAI is an affiliate of Maccabi World Union (MWU) which represents some 450,000
members in over 60 countries.
Maccabi Australia together with our member States and affiliated Clubs exist to promote Jewish identity and continuity –
connecting our Jewish community through sport and wellbeing. We are the largest member based, Jewish grassroots

organisation in Australia, boasting a 95-year heritage acting as the official roof body of Jewish Sport in Australia. Through sport
and now wellbeing, Maccabi has enriched and continues to enrich many thousands of lives in our Jewish community.
Over the years Maccabi Australia has managed and delivered events and sporting programs, including at a national level, Senior
and Junior Carnivals and Maccabi Australia International Games (MAIGS), and internationally, the Jewish Community Centre
SAGE
(JCC) Games, Pan American Games, European Games, and the pinnacle event of International Jewish Sport - the Maccabiah
Games, which is held every 4 years. We have sent a team to every Maccabiah Games since 1950.
Whatever the nature of the event, a common thread runs through the history of Maccabi – the thread of connecting the
community. Maccabi across Australia symbolises community, friendship and a competitive spirit. Just as sport maintains an
important role in society, Maccabi and its affiliated State Bodies has, and will, continue to play an intrinsic part of the fabric of the
Australian Jewish Community.
