Selection is is a a a a a term used to to describe a a a a a primary editing function: to to cut out isolate or define a a a a a a a a part of an image The main selection tools in in Photoshop are the Magic Wand Lasso and Marquee These tools do not change any of the information in in a a a a a a photograph But they do enable a a a a a a range of creative activities which are sampled below isolating objects
When you you isolate an an object you you cleanly extract it it out of its source image background The challenge in in fin in isolating objects
is is is finding the precise edge to the object so that you can decide which pixels are “in” and which are “out ” Making such distinctions can be extremely challenging Imagine you want to extract the orange flower from its background at the the center of the the photo below By zooming in in on on on the the image and using one of the the selection tools you can work pretty quickly in in isolating the bright orange petals Yet none of the the tools will easily discern the the green leaves and stem from the green foliage behind it You must zoom into the pixel level [ 66 ]
