Teacher’s Guide
English for Tourism Electronic Module has been designed to improve students
proficiency in English for tourism. It is based on hypermedia which
complemented by video and audio link that can be used in the class or outside of
the class. It can be supplementary teaching material for English for tourism that
can be accessed by both teacher and students through personal computer or
android gadget. The focus of this electronic module is on four skills of language;
listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, it also discusses some
important language usage and grammar topics and also vocabularies which
frequently used in the tourism communication activities. Therefore the teacher has
to pay attention how to use the English for tourism electronic module on line
class or in the class to achieve effective, efficient and enjoyable English learning
process.
Listening Activities
Listening activities consists of dialogues or conversation that delivered by native
or local teachers. Some students get difficulties in listening native speakers
because of its speed, pronunciation, accent, and intonation. To prevent some
problems in listening activities, the teacher has to suggest the students to have a
good sound system in their android gadget. In the class room, the teacher have to
provide a good active speaker in the class room and internet connection in
personal computer.
The video and audio files has been adapted and can be accessed through YouTube
and downloaded. The teacher can choose and play the video and audio file that
correspond to listening activities.
Speaking Activities
Speaking activities provides some video and audio conversations followed by the
conversation text. Both could be considered as a model English for tourism
communication. Therefore students will have some experiences to practice the
dialogues in the unit and may scaffold them with their own languages. It is
suggested that the teacher ought to give a model of conversation practice to
initiate students understanding in practicing their own dialogues in the form of a
role play, pair work or group work speaking activities.
Reading Activities
Reading activities consist of tourism texts such as brochures, maps, news,
letter, announcement, and catalogues of tourism products. Reading activities in
this module encourage students to improve their comprehension in reading dealing
with tourism texts. Teachers may start the reading activity by checking student’s
vocabularies enrichments then followed by understanding main idea. It would be
much more interesting reading activities if the teacher executes some reading
techniques for example scanning, skimming, reading speed, jig show reading,
reading comprehension quizzes and reading aloud. It is better to suggest the
students to have some further reading comprehension activities by exploring links
which suggested in the module.
Writing Activities
Writing activities give students to have writing activities dealing with tourism
writing activities. The teacher may start with understanding how to make simple
