Employee Spotlight – Meet Katie Gillies
Katie Gillies
KatiegrewupinSouthgate. ShejoinedtheMichigan DNR in July, 2015 as a founding member of the Outdoor Adventure Center staff. Ms. Gillies earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from University of Michigan - Dearborn in 2016.
Katie has a big heart. She especially loves and respects all animals. If she is not at work or school you might find her volunteering at SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary. Katie has also taken in many unwanted ferrets, giving them a forever home. Currently, she is caring for four ferrets. She is fond of saying, " They are my kids!"
You can find Katie enjoying the outdoors, and her favorite activities are bicycle riding and kayaking. When asked what she likes most about working at the Michigan DNR Outdoor Adventure Center she says, “I love being a part of the mission to preserve our natural resources. I am lucky to work in a place where I can be a part of something that really is important to me, caring for the environment."
You may have met Katie Gillies in several different roles at the OAC. She could have greeted you at our front desk, called to confirm your group visit or, in her newest role, taught a class you enjoyed. We feel fortunate to have someone so passionate, knowledgeable, ethical and kind on our team.
