SAFETY MEASURES
Candy and Gum
Candy and gum can be given out to each site and are to be used as rewards. To avoid any potential safety concerns, each site should implement the following:
• Only give gum or candy out after an activity has ended.
• Make sure that participants are involved in passive activities when chewing or eating any sort of candy.
• Any type of food item is strictly prohibited during active games or activities. Enforce this rule to avoid any
potential choking situations.
• Wrappers must be thrown in the garbage immediately. Anything on the floor (i.e., candy wrappers, craft beads,
game pieces, equipment, paper, etc.) should be picked up and put in its proper place.
• Reward items should not contain nuts of any kind or nut oils – check labels.
Water Activities
Any excess water from water activities should be wiped up immediately. Enforce these rules to avoid potential injuries or slip & falls. Be sure to clean-up all water balloon scraps. Slip-n-slides are not used at our sites. Please implement water activities on the grass and not on the cement. No water activities should be completed inside or in the gym.
Participant Injury Policy
Clinton Township Recreation will not permit a child with stitches, a cast, or other serious injuries to participate in active/physical "activities" including, but not limited to: running, jumping, swimming, skating, athletics, and active games, unless the participant has given CTPR written permission from their physician to engage in such activities. A parent/guardian's written permission will not be allowed to substitute as a physician's permission.
A participant with stitches, a cast, or other serious injury may participate in all passive activities that do not aggravate their injury.
Medication Policy
Clinton Township Recreation employees will NOT administer any sort of medication to any program participant. Participants need to be able to self-administer/medicate themselves or a family member will have to come to the site and give the child the medication. There are no exceptions to this rule.
If a participant needs to carry something with them (inhaler, insulin, etc.), the staff may secure the medication until it is time for it to be self-administered.
If you leave the building to go outside,
the child should take the medication with them in case of immediate need.
