DAY CAMP STANDARDS
Below is what is expected of each site on a weekly basis. Familiarize yourself with what you must plan, execute, display and deliver to your supervisor, in order to run a successful site.
Attendance vs. Registration. This is assessed by calculating the total amount registered vs. the actual amount of participants that attended for a given week. Your creative & exciting lesson plans will make this number high!
Field Trip Attendance. 1 to 9 ratio of staff to children on a field trip. This will show how well you filled your field trip spots.
Lesson Plan Activities
Athletics - Team sports (softball, basketball, pillo polo, soccer, volleyball, etc.)
Offered at least once a day, without repeating within one week. Rotate am/pm/am or pm/am/pm.
Games - The bulk of a lesson plan (elimination, tag, relays, dodge ball, army navy, etc.)
Various games offered without duplication throughout the day & week. Dodge ball can be offered once a day. Certain games can only be offered once each week.
Extra Craft – Utilize your supplies for additional crafts (painting, collages, nature prints, etc.) be creative! Offered once a day at a different time than the weekly craft project. Rotate am/pm. 3 crafts required per week
Daily Requirements
Variety - A variety of sports, crafts, games and other special activities are offered on a daily basis. Also remember to include a variety of active & passive activities. Variety means the types of games, size of groups, age groups and overall quality. Rotate activities between active and passive.
Strong and consistent variety offered each day
Activity Transitions - The flow of the activities on the lesson plan. Is too much time spent trying to get the children seated, quiet or ready for the next activity? Does the site have a pre-activity ritual? (i.e., having children circle up or clapping) Is order maintained when stopping one activity and starting another?
This must be consistently smooth transitions each day
Organization, Cleanliness & Order - What does your site look like? Is it in order or are there supplies everywhere?
How are the age groups broken down? How are teams decided? Keep your site straightened and clean. Utilize your
teen volunteers to help with this aspect.
Consistently organized each day
Energy & Enthusiasm – It is vital that you maintain a high energy level and keep your enthusiasm up throughout the
whole summer. It will help your participants get excited about the day’s events and encourage them to come back!
Consistent for each staff person on a daily basis
Balanced Leadership – All staff members are responsible for rotating who leads the games, sports, crafts, contests,
all record keeping, etc. You will be evaluated on how well you all share the site responsibilities.
Active Supervision – All staff members are actively supervising participants at all times. Participants are not left
unattended or unsupervised. Active supervision includes but not limited to playing activities with participants and
involving yourself in the games.
On Lesson Plan – Sites must execute all activities on lesson plan at scheduled times. This is a drop in program, some
participants may choose to only attend for a few activities at their scheduled time. It is important to stay on lesson plan so parents, participants, and supervisors know what to expect.
Record Keeping
First draft of the lesson plan & newsletter - due Wednesday by 8:00am, in Dropbox (color coded and labeled) for the upcoming week. Your supervisor will return it to you by Wednesday 3:00pm. Lesson plan should include all activities clearly labeled with leadership assigned. Newsletters and Lesson Plans should be typed.
Corrected lesson plan and newsletter - due on Thursday at 8:00am in the Dropbox. Newsletters and lesson plans will be distributed at the Staff Meeting for your site, both of which should be typed, color coded, and labeled.
