Township Board, elected accountability
Township government differs from most city governments. Rather than being an appointed official, I serve as a statutory nancial officer, who is directly accountable to the residents of Clinton Township. I also serve as a voting member on the Township Board of Trustees. The greatest challenge facing the Board each year is the formation and approval of a balanced budget. Local communities are always on the front lines of service delivery and, as spelled out in my article Funding Local Government in The Michigan Spiral, less revenue from the state has punted more service responsibilities our way, with fewer dollars to
meet the increased demands.
Looking ahead, the Board will continue to face some ongoing issues in the New Year. These include
maintaining neighborhood vitality and the redevelopment of commercial corridors throughout the Township, especially those in most need such as Groesbeck Highway. An important issue for me is the continuing call for increased transparency, ethical standards, and accountability in all matters of business for Clinton Township.
Hearing from You
I’d like for you, the residents of Clinton Township to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts or concerns with me or my dedicated staff, who greet visitors and work diligently to get things right. Your input on these issues and others are important to me and I am always happy to answer questions. I can be reached by calling the Treasurer’s office at 586-286- 9319, or via email at p.gieleghem@clintontownship.com.

graduation birthday
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood to live. When you give blood, you give more than just a pint. You give a second chance. You give someone another birthday, another anniversary, another graduation, another family memory, another dance, another laugh, another tomorrow.
We can’t give second chances without you. For 20 years, Clinton Township has partnered with the Red Cross to give others their second chance. To register, call 586-286-1768, or visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code: clintontownship. You can also call Treasurer Paul Gieleghem’s office at 586-286-9313.
