P. 5
NOTE FROM THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Commissioners and staff of CALEA have remained focused on serving public safety leaders and practitioners through the administration of accreditation programming and best in practice industry standards. This mission-driven priority has literally been anchored to every action of the organization and used as a guidepost in the delivery of services.
In 2016, this organizational axiom was applied during the comprehensive review of the law enforcement standards and related efforts to promulgate the respective publication’s sixth edition. Additionally, the finalization of the web-based assessment reporting tool demonstrated CALEA is a learning organization which listens to the suggestions of clients when generating contemporary solutions. The transition to the annual review process through the use of compliance services members further exemplified a desire to provide support beyond simply measuring compliance with standards.
The transitioning of assessors from independent contractor status to per diem employees during the fiscal year revealed the organization’s nimbleness and ability to manage complex issues within a professional business environment. This attribute was further supported during the annual financial audit process, where the organization was recognized for applying sound controls and reporting procedures. Finally, the investment strategies incorporated in 2016 have further ensured the organization’s financial health and ability to effectively serve public safety entities far into the future.
As the Executive Director, I could not be more proud of the results and outcomes recognized by the organization in 2016. As you review this annual report, it is important to know the Commissioners and staff of CALEA will always remain dedicated to providing opportunities through accreditation services that allow public safety agencies to steadfastly demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence, and we know
the participation of the very best agencies directly contributes to the power of our programming.
