CHAIRPERSON/PRESIDENT
Iam pleased to confidently report on the “State of CALEA” at the close of calendar year 2019. As indicated in the most recent financial audit reports, the organization is fiscally sound and is effectively managing its resources in a manner consistent with not-for-profit
corporations’ generally accepted accounting principles.
In terms of organizational structure, design and leadership, and with the direction of Executive Director W. Craig Hartley, Jr., staff has remained focused on key business priorities and ensured client services and support is at the center of every work effort. Additionally, I am happy to report the entire Board of CALEA Commissioners is committed to the corporate mission and the support of public safety agencies, as well as the professionals working in the industry.
As a result of the effort and dedication of all those associated with the organization, CALEA continues to make tremendous advancements, all culminating in the enhancement of services across each accreditation program. This has included leveraging technology, research, subject matter expertise, partnerships, training and opportunities associated with emerging trends within the public safety industry. Subsequently, the value of accreditation for newly enrolled and experienced agencies continues to grow.
In 2019, CALEA continued to support Mexican agencies and their accreditation efforts through its business relationship with the National Police Foundation and the United States Department of State - International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Section. Commissioners and staff participated in special events and training deliveries in the respective country, which specifically focused on engaging and sustaining accreditation within qualifying public safety entities in Mexico. These efforts have had appreciable impacts on the service capacities of participating organizations and improved relationships among such entities.
I truly appreciate the opportunity to have been a part of CALEA’s success in 2019 and I look forward to continuing our mission of enhancing public safety through the application of standards. It is an honor to serve on this Commission and to serve our client agencies. Together, we will strive continuously to be correctly recognized as, “The Gold Standard in Public Safety.”
