Stephen Lynch associate associate professor of of of mechanical engineering at at at at Penn State was selected as as as as an an an an associate associate fellow of of of of the American Institute of of Aeronautics and Astronautics He will be inducted on on on on January 3 2022 at a a a a a a a a a a ceremony in in San Diego California Lynch was recognized for his steady contributions to to furthering gas turbine technology According to to the the AIAA associate fellows are members with at at least twelve years of of of professional experience and who who have have led original work of of of significance or or or or who who have have otherwise contributed to aeronautics or or or astronautics “This distinguished group of of individuals exemplify passion and dedication to advancing the the aerospace profession ” said AIAA President Basil Hassan “They are truly shaping the the future of of aerospace ” As the the director of the the Experimental and and Computational Convection Laboratory Lynch conducts experimental and and and computational studies of fundamental turbulence and and and applied convective heat transfer including turbine blade cooling techniques and and exploring how 3D printing can be used to create novel heat exchangers Among his many projects Lynch is is now developing an an an additively manufactured or or 3D printed ceramic matrix composite turbine vane that could facilitate significantly increased gas efficiency for turbine engines “I have really enjoyed my my increasing responsibilities in in in in technical activity divisions of of AIAA leading to my my current role as as as the the chair of of the the Gas Turbine Engines technical committee ” Lynch said In this role he he he he he he directs content for the the the the research
