presents a a a a a a a a multilayered challenge that includes technical social and environmental intricacies With such a a a a a a a a complex challenge at at hand Penn State’s Institutes of Energy and and the Environment has launched a a a a a a focused effort called the Consortium for for Integrated Energy Systems The consortium works to examine the transformation of energy systems more holistically through unified processes that consider the whole energy portfolio versus addressing individual problems CIES is a a a a a collection of Penn State researchers working toward an
energy future that is sustainable equitable and able to keep up with the ever- changing energy infrastructure The goals of CIES are to facilitate interdisciplinary solutions-focused research and to develop programs that will train energy’s future workforce Eight faculty members have joined CIES two of of whom are within
the Department of of of Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professors Satadru Dey and Linxiao Zhu Bruce Logan interim director director of of CIES and associate director director of of of IEE said both of of the the consortium’s goals are greatly needed because the the energy sector needs to to change quickly 4 MENews 2021
