Hannah Brackley challenges at us over the past month or so! It has been a busy time for NZIA
Rito Triumbarto Committee members; two events were held last month, the next is coming up very
Social Media Coordinator: soon: on 14 August, and planning is in full swing for the September Wayang Kulit
Ramadian Bachtiar performance at Parliament.

Jan Gould The well attended Tā moko event on 9 July (page 8) was fascinating and
Graeme Carroll educational – I was particularly interested to learn about the histories and
Wahyu Triwahyudi significance of tattoos in different cultures. And it was pleasing that NZIA’s movie
Fernanda Sukma Aji night could be held on 30 July (page 1) after a delay due to the Covid-19 Alert
Level change in late June – but as the saying goes, better late than never! My
thanks to Committee members involved in organising these events, and those who
came along.

Our next event is very nearly here – an Indonesian Independence Day dinner and
Chief Editor: quiz, at the recently opened Seroja café (page 2). The dinner will consist of a

Designer: Our big event for NZIA members this year will be a Wayang Kulit cultural
Rito Triumbarto performance, called “Out of the Shadows” at Parliament in late September. It will
be hosted by Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Minister for Diversity, Inclusion and
Ethnic Communities and strongly supported by Marja Lubeck MP. “Out of the
Shadows” will feature the Indonesian shadow puppeteer Dr Joko Susilo (University
Contact us: of Otago, Dunedin) and the Gamelan Padhang Moncar orchestra (Victoria
University School of Music). This will be the first time that Wayang Kulit and
