A free roaming spirit
No imprisoned bird yet.
No need for Boeing
Or DC 10 –
Melbourne, Veddw,
Delhi or Madras –
As free as a bird his spirit will soar,
No need for piston or jet.
A joy to see
That spirit so free.

They tell me he’s as free in the fire of the East,
The third element, too, he has encompassed.
So thank you again for the loan of the child,
And the fondest memories he’s left behind.

The house still rings
With the sound of the wings
Of that spirit flying free.
