P. 58
The sixth age shifts
Into the mean, dangerous,
Vote catching loon,
With hand on heart and
two fingers poised –
Pity the child, condone the vile,
ne’er deride
The ignorant clod –
Blame unemployment and
Poor dole, poor future, poor home, but ne’er
Blame the clod having no soul.
Last scene of all
That ends this strange eventful history
Is second childhood,
Locked in a room behind bolts and bars –
To dare outside is mere oblivion;
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
