Michael Girgis
Michael Girgis obtained his B.S. in Chemical Engineering (1980) at Stanford University and his Ph.D.
(1988) in Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware. Between 1988 and 1995, he worked
at the Mobil Research and Development Laboratories in New Jersey.
Sven Godtfredsen
Sven Godtfredsen is a native of Copenhagen, Denmark. He obtained his M.S. in Organic Chemistry
from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and his Ph.D. in Bio-organic Chemistry from
the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zürich, Switzerland. He also holds an M.D. from the
University of Copenhagen.
Bin Hu
Bin Hu obtained his B.S. in Medicinal Chemistry at Shanghai Medical University (now Fudan University)
and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in at Texas A&M University with Prof. Sir Derek Barton (Nobel Laureate
in Chemistry). Following postdoctoral studies with Prof. Barton and with the Chemical Development
group at the Schering-Plough Research Institute in Kenilworth, NJ, Hu joined the Chemical and
Analytical Development (CHAD) group at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp, East Hanover, NJ in 1998.
Piotr Karpinski
Piotr Karpinski has over 40 years of international experience in both academic and industrial
research on crystallization and precipitation processes. As an academician, he has taught
Chemical Engineering at Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland), Iowa State University, and
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and advised some 20 graduate students.
Gary Ksander (deceased)
Gary Ksander obtained his B.S. (1972) and M.S. (1974) in Organic Chemistry from San Jose State
University, his Ph.D. (1978) in Organic Chemistry at the University of California at Santa Cruz
(advisor: Prof. J. McMurry) and pursued Postdoctoral Research (1978-1981) at the ETH, Zurich,
working for Prof. A. Eschenmosher. He joined the medicinal chemistry department of Novartis in
1981 (then CIBA-Geigy), rising to Distinguished Fellow and retiring in 2010.
