The carpenter couldn’t say no to his employer. He agreed to make one last house
for him. He started making the house but he wasn’t as interested in his work as he
used to be. He became irresponsible.
Carpenter: (thinking) Why make huge, majestic and airy windows. It requires
so much effort. I will keep the windows small.
He did not use good quality wood for the doors.
Carpenter: (thinking) What is the need to spend so much money on good
quality wood?
He didn’t nail the wooden boards on the roof properly. He was in too much of a
hurry to finish this last task.
Carpenter: (thinking) It takes a lot of time to build a strong roof. I don’t want
to waste that much time.
After he constructed the house, he called his employer.
His employer was shocked to see the house because it was the carpenter’s worst
work.
Employer: (disappointed) So, you have finished your last job.
Carpenter: (exhausted) Yes, sir.
The carpenter handed over the keys of the house to the employer.
Employer: Do you know for whom I wanted you to build this house?
The carpenter got an inkling that the employer wasn’t very happy with what had
been built. Deep down, even he knew that he had not built the house with passion.
There was no thought or creativity in it. He only wanted to finish it.
Carpenter: (hesitatingly) I don’t know, sir.
Employer: It was for you. I wanted to gift it to you before you retired. But I
think that even you wouldn’t like what you have made for yourself.
The employer handed over the keys of the house back to the carpenter.
