From Behind the StorieS
A young boy named George was gifted a hatchet by his father. He was thrilled to
see a hatchet. It had a sharp and shiny blade.
George: (exhilarated) Oh! Thank you father!
The boy tried to swing the hatchet through the air just to see the sun shine on it.
Father: (warning) George! Stop! A hatchet is not a toy. Be careful with it. It
will injure someone.
George: Alright father, I will be careful.
George’s family farm provided ample opportunities to try his hatchet. He started
testing its sharpness in the fields.
First, George used his hatchet on a row of weeds. It sliced through their thin stems.
George then went for the thicker stalks of the corn plants. Many cornstalks fell
with a rustle and a crunch.
Then George saw an ear of corn fallen on the ground. It was even thicker than the
cornstalks. His hatchet sliced the corncob in half.
