An old and poor woman made
her way through the crowd to
meet Gandhiji.
She also wanted to contribute to
the Charkha Sangh.
She opened the knot on the
pallu of her saree and took out a
copper coin.
Gandhiji gave her a smile and
wished her.
When the cashier asked the copper
coin to be put in the donation
box, Gandhiji refused.
The old lady left.
The cashier asked him, ‘Bapu, you
trust me with all the money but do
not want to give one copper coin?’
Gandhiji answered, ‘It was all that
the poor lady had. This copper
coin is worth a fortune.’
This is how Gandhiji respected the
contribution made by the old lady.
Dadima: Children, you now know the importance of
respecting others.
