Favorite Memory of Residency:
One fall BMTU day, treating a very, very sick
patient in the Unit with Destry as my co-senior.
I recall having to urgently place a dialysis line at
approximately 615 am shortly after sign out.
Both Destry and I were in the room working
together to place the line quickly. Destry
attempted the line without success and I
aggressively told him to step aside to "expedite
the process" and I promptly accessed the
carotid. Destry politely looked on as I held
pressure for 45 minutes. During this moment,
we were both terrified, but looking back, it was
hilarious and a quintessential Laya-Destry ICU-
esque moment.
