Service Asset & Configuration Management Process
The goal of Service Asset and Configuration Management is to support the efficient and effective business and service management processes by providing accurate information about Asset and Configuration items. The process is divided into two components: Asset management and Configuration Management.
Asset management is responsible for providing accurate information on the IT infrastructure assets being utilized to deliver the current levels of service. Asset management looks to identify assets that are “out-of- service”, but may still be being contractually supported (paying maintenance on 3270 terminals that left the environment in 1986). By tracking and reporting the value of IT assets being utilized, asset management provides input into Financial management’s understanding of the “real” cost of IT.
