Did You Know....
That Gulfstream Park has verified a world record for one mile set on
its new turf course on opening day of the 2005 meet.
Mr. Light (ARG) ran the mile in 1:31.41 in an $37,000 allowance race
on a firm turf course in the final race on January 3, 2005. In the days following
the race the time and the distance were being discussed and debated.
The distance was confirmed by the architectural firm of Calvin, Giordano &
Associates and the time was confirmed by Teleview Racing Patrol Inc. The previous world record of 1:31.63 was set by Elusive Quality
at Belmont Park on July 4, 1998.
