Racing for the United Way
The employees of Woodbine Entertainment Group were racing to reach their goal to raise $30,000 for the United Way. After a one hundred meter turf race on the EP Taylor turf course it was Broadcaster Jason Portuondo who was the winner for the men and Kim McCoy who took home the top prize for the ladies.

September 11, 2011 was a track record for the annual race with WEG employees raising a record $75,000 for the charity. In September 2016 WEG hosted the 18th annual Woodbine Turf Races to bene t the United Way Toronto and York Region.
Trainer MIke De Paulo with his wife and Assistant Josie De Paulo and exercise rider Doug Seymour aboard Pete’s Fancy, winner of the 2001 Adena Spring Matchmaker Stakes at Fort Erie. Josie groomed Pete’s Fancy throughout her racing career. Owned by Overheath Stable the mare was retired later that year and was sold at the Keeneland January 2002 sale to John Greeley IV for $80,000. He later sold her in 2014 to current owner Grovendale and the mare is noted as being bred to Maclean’s Music, a son of Distorted Humor in 2017.
Since 2002 Trainer Mike De Paulo has been one of Woodbine’s top trainers.
2016 was his best career year for purse earnings ranking second behind trainer Mark Casse. Mike was third in number of wins in 2015.
Throughout the years Mike has trained a number of successful horses including Champions Pender Harbour and Shillelagh Slew as well as Krz Ruckus, Caren, and Passion for Action the latter two stakes winners in 2016.
