2001 - Win City Trainer Robert Tiller (right) with owner/breeder Frank Di Giulio Jr. and his family at the Queen’s Plate breakfast.
Frank Di Giulio Sr. became a race horse owner in 1981 and encouraged his son, Frank Jr. to join him in 1985.
Together they experienced some tremendous success with their long-time trainer Robert Tiller. Sadly Di Giulio Sr. passed away on May 26, 2001 at the age of 91, a few days before Win City was established as the pre-Plate favourite and a week before his electrifying performance in the Plate Trial Stakes.
Robert Tiller has come close to winning the Plate but it is the one race that has eluded him in his 30 year career as a trainer.
Win City nished second to Oaks winning lly Dancethruthedawn in the Queen’s Plate that year.
Frank Di Giulio Jr. and Trainer Robert Tiller continue to own horses in partnership and past successful horses including millionaire G3 winner Forever Grand, Champion Rare Friends, multiple stakes winners Dave the Knave and Top Ten List.
Frank himself has owned G3 winning mares Brass in Pocket and Winter Garden, as well as 2010 Champion Female Sprinter, Indian Apple Is and last year’s multiple stakes winner Sweater Weather.

In 2016 after many years as Assistant Trainer for Trainer Reade Baker Leroy Trotman shifted focus and became an Agent for Jockey Patrick Husbands.

Like Mother, Like Brother, Like Daughter!
Filly Dancethruthedawn was the winner of the 2001 Queen’s Plate on June 24 a race in which both her dam, Dance Smartly (in 1991), and her full brother, Scatter the Gold (in 2000) had both won.
The Sam-Son Farm homebred, Dancethruthedawn was also the winner of the 2001 Labatt Woodbine Oaks, a race in which her dam (in 1991) and granddam Classy N Smart (in 1984) had both won.
