Sean Smullen - named HBPA’s Assistant Trainer of the Year for 2000
At the time Sean was Assistant Trainer for Trainer Roger Att eld for 5 years. “I have learned a lot from him. Its a great opportunity to be around such a great trainer with a barn full of really good horses.” he said.
Sean started working full time in the horse racing industry at age seventeen in Ireland. He was introduced to Mr. Doyle, the father of Woodbine trainer
Mike Doyle, who
recommended that
he go and work for
Mike in Canada.
Sean arrived in Canada in 1991.

A multiple Graded Stakes winner, One Way Love was retired and entered stud at TC Westmeath Stud Farm in 2002. He stood in Ontario until 2014. His most notable progeny was You Will Love Me, 2004 lly out of the mare Trinnon, by Anshan (GB) bred and owned by Bill Jones. She was a multiple stakes winner earning close to $600,000 with 7 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds in 30 career starts. She was retired in 2010 and has had three foals to race, one of which, Love in the Forest (Old Forester) broke his maiden in his rst start October 30, 2016 at Woodbine.
In 2000 Katryan was Woodbine’s top trainer and a Sovereign Award nominee for Outstanding Trainer. He nished out 2000 with 57 wins and more than $2.6 million in earnings. He had a similar season in 2003 which has been his career best year thus far.

Jason Roberts - The Game’s website specialist. Today he is at the helm of CJL Logistics Inc. a successful freight forwarding company which provides air, ocean, transborder, warehousing, courier and customs services.
Stacie Roberts - Publisher of The Game from 2001 to 2009. In 2010 Stacie was hired as the Executive Director of The Jockey Club of Canada and of cially resigned to go back to her creative pursuits after the 2016 Sovereign Awards last April.
Excited to be back publishing the new Thoroughbred Highlight, Stacie’s daughter Emilie is an enthusiastic “assistant” and has a natural love for the sport as well.
