What’s Happening Out of Town
The Game is playing a little “catch-up” after being unable to include results in the last couple of issues. Be sure to let us know if we have missed your wins out of town and we will include them in the March issue. The recap includes races up to January 24, 2007.
Beulah Park - Grove City, Ohio
A few Canadian horses have been winning at Beulah including the Queensview Farm bred, Boomika, who won a $5600 claimer on January 8 for trainer Jeff Radosevich and owner Danny Chen. Trainer Rodney Faulkner, and owner R and P Stables had a couple of wins that day as well with the Gardiner Farms bred, Samantha for $4400 and the Elton Gunther BC bred,Happy As, for $4700.
Calder Race Course - Miami, Florida
Before the meet ended at the South East Florida track, trainer Brian Lynch sneaked in a couple of wins for owner Frank Stronach. December 18, 2-year- old High Act won a $20,000 MSW and, on January 2, Lemon Blossom scored on the turf for $23,500 MSW.
Charles Town Races & Slots - Charles Town, West Virginia
Trainer Don MacRae had a good day on January 21 at a couple of racetracks, scoring two victories including one with his own gelding Porto Seguro for a purse of $22,000. The horse was also claimed out of the race for $15,000.
Fair Grounds Race Course - New Orleans, Louisiana
There has been a bee hive of activity in the big easy this winter with three Woodbine-based trainers competing along with Woodbine’s leading rider, Emma-Jayne Wilson.
Emma-Jayne has certainly been busy riding close to 90 horses for 7 wins including a couple for trainer Malcolm Pierce. (Check out the story on Emma-Jayne on the next page).
Trainer Malcolm Pierce has been winning mainly in allowance company. He also saddled one stakes winner, the Pin Oak Stable owned Kentucky bred colt, Devilment, by Peaks and Valleys, in the $75,000 Buddy Diliberto memorial Handicap on December 16, 2006. Other wins include: Zetetic, $42,000 for Pin Oak on December 7; Tacit Agreement, $43,000 for Live Oak Plantation, December 29; Provocative Touch (with Emma-Jayne Wilson aboard), $42,000 for Live Oak Stud January 8; Lien on Me (Emma-Jayne), $41,000 for Live Oak Stud January 11; and Idle Rumor $42,000 for Pin Oak Stud January 12.
Trainer Josie Carroll has also recorded a stakes win with Good and Lucky, Florida bred by Wild Rush, in the $75,000 Woodchopper Handicap for owner Robert Mitchell on December 30. Josie had one other winner on December 1 with
Winds of Time ($43,000 allowance) for owners Mr. and Mrs. Scott. Her other wins include: Doing, $24,000 Maiden Claiming for Donver Stable January 11 and Golden Horn, $15,000 Claiming for Eaton Hall Farm on January 12 in which the filly was claimed for $8000; Good and Lucky came back off his Stakes win to take home the winning share of $46,000 in an allowance on January 22.
Trainer Mark Frostad has recorded a couple of victories in allowance $41,000 races for owner Sam-Son Farms. His winners include Scarlet Butterfly on December 7 and Go to the Sun on December 16.
Trainer Mike Mareina’s runner, What a Cracker, broke his maiden in a Maiden Claimer for $21,000 on January 22 for owner Kuehne Racing.
Finger Lakes - Farmington, New York
A few Fort Erie trainers slipped across the border to take some of the purse money at Finger Lakes before the meet closed in early December.
Trainer Tom Agosti had three wins in November with American Byline for $8500 claiming for “owner” Jason Giliforte on November 11; Wolf Eye won an $8500 claimer for owner Daniel Goehle and Kid Quixote also took home the winners share of an $8500 claimer on November 18 for owner Michael Barkowski. Fort Erie based jockey Abad Cabassa Jr. was aboard for all three wins.
Trainer Daniel Poliziani recorded a win for owner Bruno Schickedanz for $8000 on November 13 with Abad aboard. Jason Giliforte was once again listed as owner for trainer M. Ferraro’s win with Kris’s Dancer on December 2 for $8500.
Gulfstream Park - Hallandale, Florida
Trainer Jody Hammett started off the sunny Florida meet with a bang, recording two wins opening day January 3 for owner Herbert Chambers. Cup Fever won for $12,000 Claiming and Draw Fire won for $11,000 claiming.
Trainer Nick Gonzalez had the sun in his eyes when his picture was taken for the win with the Tucci Stable’s Wyatt’s Women in a $17,500 claimer. The horse was claimed out of the race for $20,000.
Trainer Roger Attfield can now rest easy with the monkey from last year off of his back (zero wins at Gulfstream in 2006). Querida Amiga was the winner of the tenth race on January 7 for $20,000 for owner Haras Santa Maria de Araras.
Trainer Mark Casse had a win earlier on the same card with Sanibel winning for $30,000 for owner Woodford Racing LLC.
Trainer Eric Coatrieux who once again has a stable of horses at Palm Meadows for owner Chiefswood Stable, recorded an allowance win for $49,500 with Nottawasaga on January 13.
Owner Hamdelue Stable had a $14,000 win on January 17 with Calason
for trainer Herbert Miller and Frank Passero Jr., training for himself and part- ners Neville Robinson, Doug Calcagni and Don Pinkus received the top prize money for Believer’s War’s win for $9000 on January 19.
Hawthorne Racecourse - Cicero, Illinois
Trainer Ralph Quaranta had a couple of winners before the track closed for a few weeks break. He’s a Believer was a winner at $10,000 on November 3 and Beautiful Brat won for $9500 on December 17, both for his wife, Debbie.
Laurel Park - Laurel, Maryland
Two time Canadian Champion Sprinter, Judith’s Wild Rush, was named the official winner of the Native Dancer Stakes on January 13 after Your Bluffing, a winner by a nose, was disqualified for drifting out approaching the finish. It was the six-year-old’s 11th win in 36 starts in his career. The winners share of the $62,200 purse increased his earnings to $830,290 career for owner Harvey Tenenbaum. Julian Canet was listed as trainer at Laurel with jockey Julian Pimentel in the irons.
Mountaineer Park - Chester, West Virginia
Trainer Don MacRae has been doing quite well in Chester winning 7 races thus far. Fog Buster was a winner for $11,200 on December 2 for owner Roy David Brown and was claimed out of the race for $5000. Predominater won $15,700 for “owner” Dave Dwyer on December 5. The trainer/owner pair also teamed up for a win with My Pal Holly for $14,500 on December 30, one of two races Don won that day; the other was his own Banko for $10,400. Don also had a winner December 9 with Wild Soul for $11,900 for owner Uri Fishman and a win for owner Shale Wagman on December 11 for $10,900 with Awesome Dancing. Don’s most recent win both as trainer and owner was after Mountaineer’s short break on January 21.
Fort Erie’s Leading Jockey Robert King Jr. recorded a win for trainer Robert Johnston and owner Lorna Possler with Sweet Lil Punky for $20,700 on December 5.
Trainer and Owner Mike Newell ven- tured to the winner’s enclosure on two occasions with Simmer Down $10,100 December 12 and Tejabelle $11,200 on December 16.
Trainer Leslie Frost had a Boxing Day treat, on December 26 with Filly Idol winning for $12,100 for owner Albert Sanges.
Penn National - Grantville, Pennsylvania
Trainer Sam Quaranta has recorded 4 wins at the Penn including Shemustbeobeyed $6900, December 20; Sheatown $7000 January 3; and Spider
Canyon $6000 January 9 all for owner Rocco Quaranta. His fourth win was with Infinite Speed $6300 January 16 for owner Gerald Sternberg.
Owner/trainer Phillip Brown had a winner for $8000 on December 26 with Appalachee Bay and owner Bruno Schickedanz’s Lady Rocker, trained by Todd Beattie, scored for $14,000 on December 6.
Philadelphia Park, Bensalem, Pennsylvania
Owner Harvey Tenenbaum has won a few races with trainer Julian Canet. Mindy’s Peak was the winner for $16,500 claiming on January 13; I’m Sky High won a $30,000 Allowance on January 21 and Judiths Vow broke her maiden for a purse of $18,000 (Mdn Claiming).
Trainer Maggie Couse saddled winner, Carrington, for “owner” Scott Fairlie in an allowance optional claimer worth $32,000 on January 16.
Portland Meadows - Portland, Oregon
Hastings-based trainer, Tom Longstaff, watched Lethal Grande come home first for owner Eleutherios Georgepoulos in the $8050 Invitational Handicap Stakes on January 21.
Sam Houston Race Park - Houston, Texas
Trainer Mark Fournier took a string of 16 horses to Texas for owner Bruno Schickedanz and the unexpected snow and ice hasn’t stopped Mark from winning races. Mark currently sits with 7 wins which include: Very Clever Beau, December 23, $6500; Emptor, January 6, $5500 claimed for $5000; Foxy Jean, January 7, $6000; She Can Boogie, January 7, $5500; Inspired Dancer, January 12, $6500, claimed for $5000; Philly Express, January 14, $5500; and Hero on Hold, January 20, $5500.
Trainer and owner Donna McCullough ventured to Texas with one horse, Fairwell Madrid, who will be coming home a Stakes winner after taking the $29,250 Allen’s Landing Stakes, 1 1/16 mile on the turf on January 6.

Santa Anita Park - Arcadia, California
Jockey Gerry Olguin is keeping busy this winter in Southern California where his agent father, Roger, is handling his book. Gerry has recorded three wins (he was disqualified to second on a fourth win) for purses totalling $58,160.
