1 and 2 - If the half hitch of the left rope started by passing over, the second rope will be led to its
first half hitch twice over in the same direction as the standing end of the left rope.
The preparation is finished now and you can braid with the right rope, which is opposite, with the
part of the first rope passing under.
3 and 4 - The path is still in opposition but now with that part continuing over.
To pass under, choose the bight twice-under, indicated by A B which is closest.
You have just used the main rule of braiding:
Bight twice-under, I go under.
Bight twice-over, I go over.
After the braiding, you simply continue with consistent bights, over at one cross, under at the
next, for example XA and XB, YC and YB, ZC and ZB.
In this way, the structure is certain to hold tight.
When this is put into use, the strands may slide a bit, but they will quickly lock into a very
compact knot. Even after being used for an extended period under pressure, it can always be untied.
