69. Timber Hitch
The timber and construction industries use the Timber Hitch regularly for
hauling and lifting logs, poles, pilings, and culvert tubes. It cannot be tied
tightly around the object, but when load is applied, the pressure of the rope
against the object secures it well, and when the load is released, the knot
becomes loose again and is easy to undo.
Uses: hauling, lifting or towing logs, pipes, heavy objects, or bundles of poles
Pros: simple to tie and untie
Cons: insecure if load is perpendicular to object; may require turning the object
