Alpine Coil

Also known as: Mountaineer’s Coil, Climber’s Coil, Lap Coil, Standing Coil

This method of coiling is quick and easy, and it works for short as well as
long lengths of rope. If made large enough, the finished coil can be carried
slung diagonally across the chest and can be uncoiled with the standing

part still attached to one’s climbing harness. But because it secures the
coils at only one point on the circumference, it is somewhat prone to
tangles.
