                                                    The Use of ‘Should’

                      1.  To exspress obligation

                         Should Is often used to talk about duty or obligation. It can also be used to say or
                         ask the correct or best thing to do.
                         •  You should tell the truth.
                         •  If you are not feeling well, you should consult a doctor.
                         •  There should be an investigation into the cause of the accident.
                         •  I should drink more water. (this is my opinion)
                         •  You should dnnk more water. (rm t&Iing yóu what I think.)
                         •  Do you think we should stop here7 (I’m asking you for your opinion.)
                         Note that “should” is NOT as strocg as ‘must;
                         In questions, should is used to ask for advice or instructions.
                         •  Its rather cold here. Should I turn the heater on?
                         •  What should we do now?
                         •  Should I seek his opinion
                         •  Should we talk to him?

                      2.  To express probability
                         Should can express logical probability.

                         •  You should find this grammar book helpful
                         •  He should be here soon—he letE home at six.
                         •  It should be nice if my granny stays for a couple of weeks.
                         •  I should be able to beat him.
                         •  Mount Everest should be visible from Tiger Hill ¡f the sky is clear.
                         ‘Shouldn’t expresses negative advice.
                         Example: You shouldnt sJt too close to the TV. It’s bad for your eyes.

                         ‘Should’ expresses the opInion of the speaker and ¡t Is often introduced by 1
                         think... or I don’t think. ...

                         Examples:
                              I think politicians should listen mooe.
                              I don’t think people should get married until they are 20.
