INTERVIEW WITH HSE CHAMPION
Mr. Manoj Kumar Aware
Senior Engineer - QMS CIVIL, FGD Mouda
1. Why you think safety first?
It is ideal for me, as executive to believe that having no accidents is the first & top priority. Safe means
not being at risk, not the absence of accidents. Achieving a zero injury or incident outcome is possible
but removing all risks from an industrial setting is not.
When we communicate that "Safety is first," we create situations in which to be proven wrong, if safety is
predicated on false beliefs. When statements like these are made, our credibility and trust is lost.
2. What all are the important factors for a safe operation/ Safe Site?
Ø Make sure employees have the right tools and have regular equipment inspections.
Ø Implement safety protocols from the start of any activity like as PTW, TBT etc
Ø Do not start work without an induction.
Ø Do not put yourself or others at risk
Ø Report defects and near misses
Ø Follow safety signs and procedures.
Ø Always wear PPE at working site
Ø Housekeeping at regular interval

The main role of the myself as HSE Champion, is to assist management in the implementation of the
cultural change programme. Their key role is to ensure there is effective communication between
Management and the Operating Teams, and to build trust and encourage involvement from everyone.
