Our History

Tolo was founded in 1985 in Hong Kong. The name comes from a sheltered

harbour in the northeast of Hong Kong, where the company founder spent many
happy hours sailing with his family. Tolo Harbour was also famous for having an
abundance of oysters, and we hope the toys we make can be like a string of

            enchanting pearls.

The original design inspiration for Tolo Toys was to combine the traditional toys in
new ways and make them safe for children under five years of age.

Tolo is best known for its classic range of baby toys and themed play. Most are
non-motorised and suitable for younger children, with the toys aimed at

6 children from the ages of zero to five.

Our most famous toy is the Tolo Bath Duck. Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, in 2007,
modelled his giant rubber duck sculpture on the Tolo Bath Duck. Hofman works on
reproducing objects that we can usually see around us, in a huge size, while

            making them from ordinary materials.

We hope the toys we make can help you say to the next generation:
            “The world is your oyster.”
