      Short Splice



        A method for permanently joining
        two ropes of equal thickness.
        Produces a thicker rope.
        May be tapered (see pp.364–69) if desired.
        Use a fid or Swedish fid (see p.19) to make
        it easier to separate the strands.
        Make three cycles of tucks each way for
        natural rope and five for synthetic.
