Martha Ferrara
Turandot Welcomes Award-Winning Costume Designer from Cal Arts

Turandot, Puccini’s last opera, will be presented as part of Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s 20th Anniversary Season. The January 2018 production will feature the work of Martha Ferrara (sister of the Stage Director, William Ferrara). Martha is a Costume
Designer at California Institute of the Arts in Santa Clarita, California, where she has been a faculty member since 1977. She will design and build 96 original costumes for the Cedar Rapids’ production.
Martha’s work has encompassed opera, theatre, dance, and video. She describes her  rst designs for opera:
“My initiation into designing for opera began in 1980 with a commission from LA County Museum of Art for the  rst reconstruction of the Russian Futurist opera by Matyushin, Kruchonykh and Malevich, Victory Over The Sun. The production toured in Europe, and my costumes were exhibited at the National Gallery of Art and at
