BASIC STORAGE DEVICES OF COMPUTER
Storage devices are devices that can be used to store
data/information temporarily or
permanently and at the same time retrieve information
from them. OR
A storage device is a device used for storing
information so that it can be retrieved and used at
a later time. The purpose of storage is to hold data
permanently
EXAMPLES OF BASIC STORAGE DEVICES
I. Hard drive
II. Floppy disc drive
III. CD Rom
IV. Pen drive
Storage involves two processes
1. Reading and retrieving: reading is the process of retrieving information from a storage
device.
2. Writing: writing is the process of storing information on a storage device
The physical materials on which data is stored are called storage media devices e.g. Diskette,
pen drive. While storage devices help to read from and write data to storage media.
TYPES OF STORAGE DEVICES
There are only two types of storage devices. They are;
