OUR STUDENTS DRIVING THE
‘BE LIKE HER’ MESSAGE
On the importance of representation to the nuturing of a young child’s aspirations, American activist for
children’s rights, Marian Wright Edelman, once said,
‘You can’t be what you can’t see’.
Women’s full and equal participation in all facets of society is a fundamental human right.
Yet, around the world, from politics, to sport, to entertainment, to the workplace, women are largely
underrepresented.
BE LIKE HER LIVE aims to have our students explore and create their own narrative of the positive and
powerful impact women have had on their community, and the world.
Through student produced and enquiry-focused radio and podcast interviews, BE LIKE HER LIVE will
provide our school community with compelling media content that will powerfully demonstrate that
women can aspire to achieve at the highest levels, in any field they have an aptitude and passion for.
Importantly, BE LIKE HER LIVE will also present young male students with inspiring success stories of
women, building respect, and showcasing traits and behaviours that they can emulate in their lives.
BE LIKE HER LIVE produces compelling student content that…
• Tells the story of successful women in our local community
• Provides female role models with an opportunity to share their experiences and celebrate the impact
of their work in our community
• Has our students investigate, educate, report on and broadcast key messages about gender
equality, and respect for women
• Forges real-world connections by having our students professionally interview successful
people, alumni, and other high profile leaders
• Has our students appreciate the power of 21st century media, and the responsibility that comes with
using it to promote messages and tell stories.
