The YOUNG LEADERS OF THE WEST - SCHOOLS
PODCAST CHALLENGE (YLOTWSPC) is a
modern-media, radio broadcast event that uniquely
has students in schools, in the west of Melbourne,
producing a series of powerful and compelling podcasts
that educate their school, and local community, about
gambling harm.
Co-hosted by students of particpating schools, and produced by
the young members of the YOUNG LEADERS OF THE WEST program,
the YLOTWSPC will have students source data outlining the extent and impact
of gambling harm on communities, interview experts on gambling addiction, and share
stories of those who have lived experience of gambling harm. Students will use what they have
learnt to produce, and promote a podcast that will build awareness of the issue, and aim to
change lives for the better, in their community.
As part of this initiative, young members of the YOUNG LEADERS OF THE WEST program, with
the support of MAKING MEDIA AUSTRALIA, will provide students with basic training in radio
and podcast production to help prepare them for their media roles.
The students with the best produced, and most listened to, and viewed podcast, will be
awarded with a professional podcast kit for their school.
YLOTWSPC will be recorded live in participating schools and broadcast on global radio station,
LIVE FM (www.livefm.online) in October 2021. It is an initiative that is proudly supported by IPC
Health, and the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation.
