Caissons








                1. Rock socket length of 4.5m.



                2. Hand-dug with cast-in-place full circumferential reinforced concrete


                        segmental linings.



                3. The lining comprised inverted frustum-shaped segments and each


                        segment was 0.8m long.



                4. It took 1 to 2 days to advance the caisson bore each segment in soil.



                5. Each rock socket excavation took 2 to 3 weeks to complete.



                6. Typically took up to 6 weeks to construct a caisson pile in soil to


                        bedrock 12m deep below.



                7. Every 4m extra length caisson excavation in soil incurred about 10


                        extra days of construction per pile.
