Photography has been an interest of mine ever since I can remember.
A vivid early memory of mine is repeatedly pushing my parents’ 110
format camera closed and pulling it open again, pretending to
advance the film and then pressing the releasing button, taking as
many imaginary pictures as I liked. Fast forward some years, casual
experimentation with photography, albeit entirely digital, remains a
happy pastime. It was during the last few years that I became
interested in shooting analogue. I love not knowing precisely how the
photo will turn out, the element of surprise fills me with so much
excitement and drive.
It wasn’t until 2 or so years into my partner and I starting PERVERT
Media that I saw this as part of my profession. It is now essential to
my work, since I am a content creator and I need to find engaging
ways to promote the scenes that I and my scene partners put so
much passion into. I find social media particularly stressful but when
I discovered that I could fold in my love of photography, it all just
clicked for me. All of the film shoots provide an opportunity for me to
capture what I find most interesting - an outward expression of
someone’s inner life, the thing that the majority of people tend to
keep reserved for those closest to them.
Despite all of this, I never called myself a photographer as it didn’t
feel like it was a claim I had permission to make. It was only recently
that a photographer that I really admire, Brandon (instagram.com/
betterrugged), called me photographer in way that expressed that I
am his peer, that I thought, “oh yeah, I’m a fucking photographer!”.
And so, here is my offering - each image is an invitation and I hope
you’ll come along.
