Figure 12. Bowline on a Bight
Use this whenever you need to make a two-legged “bosun’s chair” for rescue
work, or when you need a nonslip loop in the middle of a rope when both ends
are inaccessible. The bowline on a bight differs from the conventional bowline in
that the loop in the center of the “rabbit” (see description of bowline on page 24)
is passed over the doubled loop, which is hanging below, then forced up behind
the standing part of the rope. Hold the rope firmly with your left hand as you
pull down with your right to tighten the knot.
