                 Dear Ms. Maurer,

Thank you so much for supporting Morehouse School of Medicine and its students, it truly means
the world to me knowing that you took the time to invest in me and my future. This contribution
means that my hard work and determination is paying off. One of the many things that keep me
motivated and driven is knowing that one day I will be able to help someone else in a similar way.
One of the greatest lessons that I have learned throughout life is the power of giving back and your
                 generosity truly exemplifies this.

A little bit about myself, I was born on the Southside of Chicago and shortly after my birth my
parents decided to move to Los Angeles to provide a better life for my older brother and me. Some
years later my parents would separate, and my mother became a single mother raising now three
boys. It was very difficult watching my mother work multiple jobs to try to provide for us and it
motivated me to dream. In my community of Carson, California, a lot of people do not get the
opportunity to see past what is in front of them. By chance at fourteen I joined the
Firefighter/EMT Rescue program for at risk youth in my community. Riding around with these
firefighter EMTS exposed me to medicine and science. Fast forward a few years I was able to
enter college, become a medical scribe, an elementary school teacher and now a medical student.
My goal is to one day help other people who come from lower socioeconomic conditions and
allow them to see that it is possible to reach your dreams.

As I progress through medical school, my passion and purpose has never been clearer. Everyday I
am learning something new and I continue to push and challenge myself to be better than the day
before. Thank you some much for your continued support in this journey. I believe, given the
opportunity, everyone can reach their goals and I really appreciate you helping me in my journey to
                 reach mine.

                 Sincerely,

                 Sean Johnson
