The  use  of  pawns

                 Pawns are important.  They have a number of dif e rent f u nctions:

                 Protecting the castled king.     Defending pieces,  by cover­    Controlling squares,  and
                                                  ing them (Nf6, Nc3)  and        thereby restricting the mobi­
