Characteristics
A thicket-forming shrub spreading by rhizomes;
Douglas’ Spirea
multiple stems are slender and upright.
The 3–4 in. long, oblong, alternate leaves have
a rounded tip and upper half of leaf margins are
toothed. Leaf undersides are sometimes fuzzy
and are paler than the top.
Light to dark pink flowers bloom early to late
summer, in dense spires at stem ends. The long
flower stamens cause clusters to appear fuzzy.
Dry, brown flower heads remain on the plant
through winter.
Shrub
Will spread freely; allow ample space.
