Michael is currently being treated as a patient
at City of Hope for lymphoma, and over the past few months through his interactions with doctors and executives, he knows it is the best place for his care.
Michael is happy to use his vast business and social network to share his experience, and encouraged his contacts to support City of Hope.
As the Appointments Secretary to California Governor Gray Davis, Michael Yamaki had the responsibility for selecting over 3,000 appointments to agencies, boards and commissions for the State of California. Agencies included selection of Directors of the DMV, Health Agencies, etc. Boards and Commissions included the Coastal Commission, Medical Board,Regents for the University of California, Transportation Board, all Water Boards. Yamaki vetted over 400 judicial candidates for Governors Jerry Brown, George Deukmejian and Gray Davis.
Yamaki was a member of the California Medical Assistance Commission which sets the rate for compensation to hospitals in the State of California. He was a public advisory director and former member of the Board of Directors of Blue Cross of California. He served as a committee member for its Public Benefit Committee which negotiated the transfer of $3 billion from Blue Cross to create two large philanthropies, the California Endowment and the California Healthcare Foundation.
Yamaki was the Senior Advisor to Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca. He has also held active roles in both the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments. As a former member of the Los Angeles Police Commission he was specifically responsible for the review of all officer involved shootings. He served as President of the Los Angeles Fire Commission. He was a member of the Use
of Force Task Force which was responsible for the monitoring of the progress andimplementationoftheChristopherCommissionrecommendations. He
was a Commissioner to the Department of Justice Commission on Peace
Officer Standards & Training (POST). He held the position of the administrative coordinator of the Narcotics Information Clinic California Council Criminal Justice Department. He is currently a member of the International Association of Chief of PoliceandaBoardofDirectorfortheDEAEducationalFoundation. Hecurrently lectures on crisis management to various universities and police cadets.
Yamaki became a member of the California State Bar Association in December 1977, is certified as a criminal law specialist and has tried many high-profile cases. Subsequently he was elected into the Old Bailey. He was a delegate to the State Bar for two years. He was the Vice-Chair of the Committee of Bar Examiners
and the former Chair of the Sub-Committee to Study Minority Pass Rates, and a member of the Ethnic Minority Relations Committee. He is a past President
