He was formerly on the Planning and Advisory Committee, Los Angeles County Bar and is currently a member of the LAW- HELP-CALIFORNIA Task Force which provides pro bono services to disaster victims. He was also a member of the task force on judicial selection and retention for the California Supreme Court and is a current member of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation.
Yamaki is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbel and a former Master of the Bench of the Inn of Court. He received the Morton Herbert Award from the Los Angeles Country Bar Association and the Trail Blazer award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He has been named as one of the 100 Most Influential attorneys in California by the Daily Journal.
Yamaki has been involved in many civic and community affairs, he was formerly a BoardofDirectorforD.A.R.E.America. HehasbeenamemberoftheLosAngeles Advisory Board for the Children’s Scholarship Fund; is a former member of the Coalition of 100; former member of the Board of Directors for Los Angeles Police Historical Society, Inc.; former Board of Governor, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice; elected delegate to the Democratic Convention, Congressional District 25; former executive member and co-chairperson, Mayor’s Advisory on Urban Housing and Community Development. Yamaki received a Community Service Award from Mayor Tom Bradley, Los Angeles; Honorary Life membership, PGA (Parents Teachers Association); received Outstanding Community Worker Award, YMCA. He was the legal counsel for the Japanese American Citizen League which is the oldest Japanese American civil rights organization in the United States.
Yamaki is a former member of the Los Angeles Convention Center Commission. His community involvement is extensive in the sports and entertainment area and is
the former Director of Golf for the State of Hawaii. He has consulted with over 25 courses around the world on golf course management. He served on the PGA Host Committees to the 1995 PGA Championship, the U.S. Senior Open in 1998, and was the General Chair of the 2017 US Amateur which was hosted by The Riviera Country Club. He was the executive producer of Swing Time sponsored by Taylor Made. He is a life member of the Magic Castle and a former student of famed Bruce Cervon. Yamaki is a long time panelist for the Golf Digest Top 100 courses in America. He currently serves as a Board of Governor for the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission.
Yamaki appeared as the guest speaker on KFWB news, the KMPC Forum, KRIO News, Bill Brudge Minority Report, Mike Galvin Report and Ralph Story of Los Angeles.
Yamaki earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from U.C.L.A. where he was a teaching assistant to both the Asian American studies and history departments. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law where he later became a member of the Board of Trustees. He is past Board Member of the U.C.L.A. Foundation Board of Governors and Councilors and has served as Chair of both the Alumni and Professional Achievement Awards committees.
