Measures for compliance improvement
Hand disinfection is the most important measure of hand hygiene and prevents the transmission of germs from the hands of medical personnel to patients. Experience shows that hand hygiene is often not carried out to the necessary extent; due to a lack of disinfection facilities, time pressure and (assumed) bad skin compatibility of the product used. By forbearance of hand disinfection potentially disease-causing germs may be transferred to the patient and hospital-acquired infections can be caused. Therefore it is crucial to improve the compliance of implementing hand disinfection.
This includes the following measures:
• disinfectant dispensers should be located within easy reach
• provide skin-friendly disinfectants
• regular staff training
• structuring of work processes
• in areas without adequate facilities for fixed disinfectant dispensers, staff needs to be equipped with pocket-sized bottles
