ANNUAL HR/IR CONFERENCE
The “Higher Education Workforce of the Future” was the theme for the Association’s annual HR/IR Conference. Held in Darwin from 11 to 13 May, the conference attracted 125 registrants.
With the focus of the conference on the future, the conference was opened by Professor Simon Maddocks, Vice-Chancellor
and President of Charles Darwin University, with his re ections on leading a global free-market business from a regional base. Association President Professor Andrew Vann, Vice-Chancellor and President, Charles Sturt University, and Professor Brigid Heywood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), University of Tasmania, invited delegates to futher these discussions through their presentations on the university workforce of the future. Presentations by Dr Curtis Roman, Head, School of Indigenous Knowledges and Public Policy, Charles Darwin University, and Dr Chris Sarra, Chairman and Founder, Stronger Smarter Institute, invited delegates to continue these discussions with the inclusion of indigenous leadership, cultural identity, and community leadership.
On the Thursday evening, delegates enjoyed a trip to the famous Mindil Beach Markets and the conference dinner was held on the Friday evening at Pee Wee’s at the Point Restaurant.
