“Zebra stallions often move away from their herd to challenge other males, to defend and protect their family. At times, a stallion will charge back to their mares calling and jumping in a spectacular display. The Makgadikgadi Salt Pans south of the Okavango Delta is where the zebra migration travels to just at the start of the rains, early December. Many give birth there away from all the predators in the delta. They stay in the area to feed on the high mineral content from the soil in the water until the rainwater pans dry up around late April when they journey back to the Okavango delta.” -BEVERLY JOUBERT
